Abstract
This study was made on 644 term newborn infants delivered at the Chungnam National University Hospital and Busan Ilsin Women¢¥s Hospital from July 1. 1978 to November 30. 1978 to figure out the relationship between newborn infant¢¥s birth weight and factors . such as matarnal age, height, gravidity, parity and hemoglobin value, gestational age, placental weight and the sex of the newborn infants.
The obtained results were as follows;
1. newborn infant¢¥s birth weight was in proportion to the gestational age within term period, but not much significant.
2. The average male infant¢¥s birth weight was 3,298 gm and that of the female infant¢¥s birth weight was 3,195 gm. The average newborn infant¢¥s birth weight was 3,250 gm. The incidence of low-birth weight infant was higher in the female infant than the male infant.
3. There was no significant relationship between maternal age and newborn infant¢¥s birth weight.
4. -There was correlation among the maternal gravidity, parity and the newborn infant¢¥s birth weight, but not significant.
5. There was no significant relationship between newborn infant¢¥s birth weight and mate¡þrnal homoglobin concentration. Maternal height was correlated with the newborn infant¢¥s birth weight, but not significant.
6. There was a high correlation between the newborn infant¢¥s birth weight and placental. weight (r:0.5).
